Our Dream Home Girl's are Taking Off ✈️
Imagine this: three girls, once bound by the chains of generational poverty, finding their wings and taking off. They have each been enrolled in a 12-month training program at none other than the Kolkata airport! Upon completion, these three ladies will start their first jobs in Hospitality, Travel & Customer Service. How's that for an incredible transformation?
Let's take a minute to share the stories of these incredible girls so you can discover the incredible distance they have come on their journey to success.
We've shared Sonia Saha's story before, but as a reminder, she was among the first girls to move into the Girls Dream Home in 2016. Despite enduring abuse and hardship, she worked really hard to overcome her past. Her mother left her with an abusive father in the Khalpar Slum, where Sonia took on adult responsibilities while trying to continue her education. At 14, she attempted suicide but was thankfully saved by a neighbor. She found safety, stability and love at the Dream Home. Sonia's story reflects both the heaviness of her past and hope through SEED and the generosity of people like YOU.
Monika Sardar, also from the Khalpar Slum, faced neglect by her single mom after her father disappeared from their lives. She fell into a destructive lifestyle of smoking, drinking, and working for (very) little money. After she was found drunk on the street, she received counseling and was admitted to a hostel. After two years there, she was one of the first girls to move into the Girls Dream Home and started to excel right away. Monika has completely transformed, becoming a role model for other girls. Her story demonstrates the power of support and education in overcoming adversity.
Nirjala Polley's story is one of resilience and hope. Because of her father's inability to work due to a medical condition and her mother's meager income as a school cook, Nirjala gave up her education to support her sisters' children. Unjustly blamed for a village boy's suicide, she faced verbal attacks and confinement to her home. In 2022, SEED intervened, bringing her to the Dream Home, where she passed her high school board exams and began vocational training.
This is just the beginning for these three and we can’t wait to watch them soar!
